About the role

  • Financial Analyst position in Corporate Services collaborating with Senior Financial Analysts. Reviewing expenditures, supporting budgeting, and ensuring financial integrity within Peel Region.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Financial Analysts to support program clients on both operating and capital related matters
  • Review expenditures and conduct required monthly accounting activities (accruals, account reconciliations, journal entries etc.) to ensure the full representations of financials for each reporting period
  • Book and reconcile provincial funding and related expenses
  • Support operating and capital budget/year end
  • May need to reconcile program specific bank account daily and b/s reconciliation
  • Support internal reporting and ministry reporting
  • On-going process improvements/enhancements to ensure data integrity and accuracy
  • Monitor spending and provide financial advice to ensure accounts are in a good financial position
  • Maintain proper documentation for project related transactions and works with internal and external auditors for auditing responses
  • Perform special financial reporting/analytical projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Finance/Accounting degree
  • CPA/CGA/CMA/ACCA accounting designation preferred
  • 3 years experience in a financial environment
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
  • Sound business acumen and critical mindset
  • Strong computer skills (specifically MS Office-Excel, Word and PeopleSoft Financials)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, planning and organizational skills
  • Great customer relationship skills
