About the role

  • Coordinate with Substation Design Engineers, Relay Settings Engineers, and other groups to ensure design concurrence
  • Development of complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communication systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, logic and functional diagrams, panel layouts, control house layouts, wiring/connection diagrams, interconnection diagrams, relaying equipment specifications and bill of materials
  • Working on project teams supporting all quality and project management goals
  • Meeting all project deadlines and supporting the processes and procedures to meet deadlines
  • Maintaining up-to-date technical skills related to the design of electrical substations and protection and control schematics for the electric utility power grid through on-the-job work and formal training
  • Substation awareness and Safety consciousness
  • Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment
  • Good PC skills and the ability to support testing activities as required by the project lead
  • Develop drawings and assist in the preparation of design packages using CAD/drafting skills
  • Preparing additional support documentation as needed to assist procurement, construction, and operation/maintenance of systems being designed
  • Consistently following established design standards and CAD drafting standards while assuring quality, accuracy, and completeness
  • Identifying process improvement ideas and commuting ideas through appropriate management channels

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with a focus on power systems
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Microsoft Office product application
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Educational experience directly related to working with [medium to high voltage] electricity (preferred)
  • Must have the ability to work independently, and accurately, and have high attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers
  • Strong computer skills.
