About the role

  • Patient Financial Counselor assisting patients with financial clearance and education on financial assistance for healthcare services in Portland, OR.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Financial Counselors are responsible for easing the way in resolution of patient accounts through financial clearance, payment collection, obtaining sponsorship, and financial assistance.
  • Identify eligibility, provide education, facilitate completion of applications for Medicaid/MediCal, and make referrals as necessary for enrollment support.
  • Assist patients and make eligibility determinations for Providence St. Joseph Health Financial Assistance.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare business office (preferred)
  • 2 years of experience in automated, computerized account follow-up system, preferably in Epic (preferred)
  • Knowledge in reimbursement of health care accounts from insurance companies (preferred)
  • Previous experience with medical and health plan terminology (preferred)
