Dimensional Control Engineer developing and executing dimensional control strategies for Polaris off-road vehicles. Leading integration of advanced practices into product development processes.
Responsibilities
Develop and lead the dimensional control strategy to align Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and the Supply Base.
Develop engineering capability through mentoring and classroom training; elevate consistency across teams and platforms.
Establish dimensional requirements flow down from vehicle goals to systems, components, and suppliers.
Define datum/locator schemes, measurement approaches, and variation metrics from component through full assembly.
Lead tolerance analysis and variation studies to guide design decisions and ensure manufacturing feasibility.
Define measurement system strategies and capability expectations, including CMM/3D scanning, fixtures, and MSA/GR&R.
Engage early with NPI teams to proactively manage dimensional variation and ensure fit, finish, and functional quality.
Drive dimensional readiness for prototype, pilot, and production builds, including measurement plans and issue resolution.
Partner with suppliers to assess and improve dimensional capability, ensuring PPAP and production readiness.
Create and maintain dimensional control standards, converting lessons learned into tools and best practices across programs.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
8+ years in dimensional, manufacturing, quality, or design engineering with strong dimensional variation management experience
Highly skilled in application and interpretation of GD&T per ASME Y14.5; demonstrated experience advising design teams on functional tolerancing and datum strategy
GDTP Technologist Level Certification per ASME Y14.5 or above preferred
Experience establishing measurement approaches and correlating results across engineering, plants, suppliers, and third parties
Working knowledge of metrology methods: CMM, 3D scanning, and functional gaging; PolyWorks experience preferred (or equivalent metrology software for programming and reporting)
Familiarity with APQP/PPAP or other gated NPI quality systems; ability to translate dimensional risk into practical controls
Strong communication, influence, and coaching skills; able to lead cross-functional decisions without direct authority
