About the role

  • Engineer focusing on generator performance metrics and developing analytics tools at PJM Interconnection. Collaborating with stakeholders and solving operational issues in the power generation industry.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on experience working directly with PJM's 24x7 Dispatchers who operate the grid
  • Highly visible and meaningful work with reports to large audiences and executives
  • Variety of projects based on skillset/interests ranging from highly technical data analytics to project management
  • Numerous generation business areas to become subject matter expert including outage planning, operational data gathering/analysis, gas-electric coordination, Black Start services, compliance with industry standards, performance monitoring and reporting, and many more
  • Working with team members to solve real-time operational issues
  • Direct interactions with stakeholders, including generation owners, market participants, and industry leaders across both electric and gas sectors
  • Identification and reporting of generation performance, including development of internal generator performance tools; outreach with generation resource owners as needed to resolve issues.
  • Create and maintain visualization to portray findings from data analysis on various generation related datasets.
  • Quantifying and modelling of business risk to allow for predictive forecasting.
  • Manage day to day generator outage request process with an eye on enhancements to improve efficiency and evolving resource adequacy landscape.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to generation team to tackle complex generation related problems and facilitate innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • BS, Engineering, Information Systems or at least 4 years of experience in data analytics within the field of power generation
  • 0-5 years of experience working in the power industry or a related field
  • Experience in the application of advanced planning, modeling and analytical techniques
  • Experience with the Analytical Process including data collection and organization
  • Experience in analyzing large volumes of data and creating summary reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, peers, and customers
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support
  • Ability to visualize and solve complex problems
  • MS, Engineering preferred
  • At least 4 years of experience with Data Analytics using Python, SQL, Advanced Excel, Tableau, Databricks, Technical Writing preferred
  • At least 4 years of experience working directly with generator operations preferred
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions preferred
  • Experience using PSS/e (power system analysis program) preferred
  • Experience in weather risk analysis preferred
  • Experience in the Generation and Transmission functions preferred.
