About the role
- Data Scientist driving feed relevance and recommendations for creator engagement at Patreon. Collaborating cross-functionally to enhance metrics and content discovery.
Responsibilities
- Own the analytics foundation for Patreon's feed by building and maintaining metrics infrastructure.
- Design and analyze ranking experiments across various feeds with ML Engineers.
- Conduct exploratory analyses to develop data-backed hypotheses about feed health and engagement.
- Develop dashboards for feed health and engagement metrics with user segment breakdowns.
- Partner with Product and ML Engineering to prioritize ranking experiments and measure performance.
- Lead culturally and technically within the data science team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working on a content feed, ranking system, or recommendation platform.
- Expertise in experimentation, especially A/B testing on ranking or recommendation changes.
- Experience building metrics and reporting infrastructure (dashboards, data quality pipelines, alerting).
- Strong analytical thinking to investigate cross-platform inconsistencies and data quality issues.
- Ability to make tradeoffs between speed and accuracy in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
- SQL proficiency and experience in Python or R for statistical analyses.
- Proven ability to build relationships with product, ML engineering, and data engineering teammates.
- Growth mindset for continuous improvement of soft and technical skills.
- Excellent communication skills for clarity and simplicity.
