About the role
- Medical coding specialist managing medical documentation between various departments. Ensuring documentation quality and coding accuracy at a healthcare facility in Germany.
Responsibilities
- You code medical services and revenue-relevant additional services independently and on a case-by-case basis (grouping diagnoses, procedures and other DRG-relevant matters using electronic patient records for outpatient and inpatient cases at the clinic), including release for billing
- Advise medical, nursing and therapeutic staff on medical documentation and case management
- Review the completeness and formal correctness of medical and nursing documentation
- Examine individual cases, handle payer and MDK inquiries and assist in the preparation and execution of billing audits
- Support clinics in MDK management and develop clinic-specific negotiation strategies, as well as coordinate and cooperate in litigation/settlement procedures
- Provide back-up support for primary coding as part of a substitution arrangement
Requirements
- Completed medical or nursing vocational training (or equivalent) and ideally professional experience
- Completed further training as a DRG coding specialist and preferably experience as a coding assistant, ideally in a hospital setting
- Knowledge of classification systems (ICD/OPS), German coding guidelines and billing regulations, and experience with MDK management
- Strong IT skills and proficiency with common office software (Microsoft tools) as well as clinical workstation systems or hospital information system software
- High degree of initiative, strong communication and team skills
- Independent and reliable working style
