About the role

  • Engineering Intern providing data-driven insights for asset management in Electric Engineering at PG&E. Collaborating with senior engineers on reliability assessments and performance analysis in Oakland.

Responsibilities

  • Support Asset Failure Analysis (AFA) efforts through data-driven engineering analysis, including asset performance trending, cause evaluation analysis, and other reliability-focused assessments.
  • Support outage and ignition/event reviews by compiling information, conducting preliminary analyses, and documenting findings under the guidance of a senior engineer or supervisor.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical methods to support asset performance, reliability assessments, and failure analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen PG&E’s asset strategy programs by translating data into actionable insights, recommendations, and clear visualizations.
  • Prepare concise technical summaries and materials (tables, charts, write-ups) to communicate results to engineering and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Stay flexible and responsive to emerging requests, shifting priorities as needed while collaborating effectively within the team.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing bachelor's or master’s in Data Science, Electrical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering, Systems, or other related field
  • Foundational understanding of engineering analysis concepts, including research methods, testing, data evaluation, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and investigative mindset, with an interest in understanding failure mechanisms, root causes, and system behavior.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize data into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a team-oriented engineering environment.
  • Comfortable working with various types of software and standard productivity tools, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with data or analytics tools is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and respond proactively to emerging analytical needs.
