About the role

  • Plant Fund Accountant at CU Denver responsible for overseeing plant funds and related financial functions. Supporting the Assistant Director of Plant Fund & Cost Accounting in finance office operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional accounting support to the Finance Office including overseeing plant funds, journal entries, speedtype allocations, auditing, reporting, asset and debt management
  • Support the Assistant Director of Plant Fund & Cost Accounting in updating research space surveys on an annual basis
  • Create and maintain chartfields for programs, projects, and speedtypes related to plant funds
  • Assist with reviewing transactions in the Capital Construction and Reserve funds and create related journal entries
  • Conduct audit sampling of payment vouchers from the Facilities Project accountants
  • Perform reconciliation of construction-in-progress account and resolve issues
  • Act as the Central Administrator and primary contact for web-based space tracking system
  • Coordinate with the Institutional Planning Office to obtain space inventory data to upload to WebSpace
  • Perform on-site space audits to ensure the integrity of WebSpace
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and maintain various schedules related to the Retirement of Indebtedness (ROI)
  • Review quarterly financial transactions related to space/equipment leases and subscription-based information technology agreements as applicable

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution with 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing is required
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis
  • At least one (1) year of professional accounting experience
  • Prior experience at a Higher Education Institution or State of Colorado Agency is preferred
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft, the University’s accounting system is preferred
  • Experience working with finance, accounting or business information systems is preferred
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standard pronouncements is preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Outstanding customer service skills
