  • Manufacturing Engineering Intern at Olympus focusing on product innovations for medical technologies. Collaborating with teams to support various engineering projects and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will contribute to our mission by working with the teams responsible for delivering product innovations to market.
  • Collaborating with your supervisor and team to complete role-related assignments and projects.
  • Actively engaging in and adding value to meetings and discussions.
  • Supporting the development and release of test executive systems for inspection automation.
  • Supporting the development of process improvement equipment.
  • Supporting scrap reduction efforts on high-volume production lines to improve cost savings.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of spare part management systems.
  • Supporting the Industrial Engineering team to develop work content tools, standard work and process efficiency developments.
  • Developing assembly aids, equipment specifications and manufacturing instructions.
  • Conducting research and providing improvement recommendations for existing processes.
  • Reviewing literature and conducting applicable product testing to aid in the design and development processes.
  • Evaluating manufacturing data using Microsoft Excel and other software.
  • Reviewing sales lead times and corresponding safety stock.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a full time undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited 4-year institution.
  • Preferred fields of study include Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Must complete two (2) years of undergrad before the internship begins and graduate after the internship ends.
  • Must not now or in the future require immigration-related sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance academic and extracurricular commitments (i.e. work experience, clubs, volunteer activities, teams, etc.).
  • Basic engineering knowledge.
  • Must possess excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Must be proficient and have practical knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work well within a team and independently at times with limited guidance.
  • Preferred: Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Basic understanding of prototyping process.
  • Experience with data analysis software.
  • Experience with root cause analysis.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic and deadline-driven environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize/execute multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Strong, professional communication skills.
  • Skilled in presentation development and public speaking.
  • General curiosity and a desire to learn new material.
