About the role

  • Join Ofload as a Software Engineer to build features for a tech-enabled freight platform. Collaborate with a cross-functional team leveraging modern technologies such as PHP and React.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively in a small cross-functional squad (engineers, product, design) to build features that power Ofload’s core platform.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable backend services using PHP 8, Laravel, and REST APIs, and contribute to front-end components in TypeScript + React (depending on experience).
  • Contribute to code reviews, write clean and maintainable code, and continuously improve engineering standards and practices.
  • Write and maintain meaningful automated tests to ensure high-quality and reliable releases.
  • Learn and apply software design principles (e.g. MVC, REST and dependency injection) with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Participate in planning, refinement, and delivery alongside Backend, DevOps, Data, UI/UX, and QA.
  • Help debug production issues and contribute to improving reliability, observability, and overall system performance.
  • Grow your impact over time, taking ownership of features, understanding system behaviour, and contributing to architectural discussions as your experience increases.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of commercial experience building web applications (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience with at least one backend language and/or framework, such as PHP/Laravel, Ruby/Rails, Python/Django, NodeJS or similar.
  • Some experience with front-end frameworks (React, Vue, Angular) or willingness to learn React/TypeScript.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, relational databases, and basic software design principles.
  • Comfortable working in Linux/MacOS dev environments.
  • 2–5 years experience building and maintaining production systems.
  • Solid experience with PHP and Laravel, or strong expertise in another backend ecosystem with willingness to transition.
  • Practical experience with TypeScript/React or modern front-end frameworks.
  • Experience working with relational databases (preferably Postgres) and API-driven systems.
  • Good understanding of testing practices, version control (Git), and modern development workflows.
  • Ability to break down problems, propose solutions, and take ownership of features from conception to delivery.
  • Experience working in a cloud-based environment (AWS ideal) is a bonus, not a requirement.
