About the role

  • Hardware Development Engineer defining HW strategy and product roadmap for passenger connectivity solutions. Collaborating with teams to ensure high-quality and innovative networking solutions in a hybrid role from Paris.

Responsibilities

  • Help to define the HW strategy in alignment with the 3-year planned roadmap.
  • Redact technical specification documentation for new and replacement of end-of-life HW to be sent to external HW suppliers.
  • Follow-up the market, our competitors and HW suppliers’ product roadmap.
  • Gather inputs from customers, sales & service teams to identify new significant requirements.
  • Manage the product backlog and prioritise the backlog items.
  • Provide technical support to supplier selection & evaluation.
  • Cooperate with the Head of Rail Engineering Compliance to ensure that products meet standards.
  • Perform detailed inspections of initial production samples during First Article Inspection (FAI).
  • Deliver and maintain detailed documentation of all testing procedures, results, and FAI reports.
  • Develop necessary test plans for hardware products: functional, performance & stress testing, new features, etc.
  • Plan and execute the tests in-line with the plan.
  • Review roadmap, planning, EOL risks and test results with relevant teams.
  • Present new solutions and provide documentation to Bid and Sales teams.
  • Support for tenders: review requirements and validate solution design.
  • Gather integration information about new products and features from development team.
  • Plan HW testing and review test results with Hardware Integration team.
  • Exchange information with Procurement team regarding third party products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related fields.
  • Qualified in networking to a formal qualification CCNA, CCDP, CCNP, WSCTA or equivalent.
  • Qualification in network security and/or ethical hacking would be an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of Ethernet switching and routing (L2/L3), VLANs, STP, PoE, QoS, multicast, etc.
  • Knowledge of Wi-Fi standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), RF fundamentals, and wireless security.
  • Familiarity with network management platforms, cloud-managed networking, and SDN concepts.
  • A basic understanding of electronic design techniques, as well as electronics production, to a level that enables the review of specific design requirements and the evaluation of product quality in accordance with IPC standards.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Product Management, Product Owner, or Engineering role within networking/IT infrastructure and with Network Hardware – Switches, Routers and Access Points.
  • Experience setting up office LAN/WAN end-to-end, including security considerations, segregation services on VLAN’s L3 routing, Iptables/Firewalls, net filtering, logging, proxy server and VPN.
  • Extensive experience configuring and managing network devices from multiple vendors.
  • Experience in the configuration of Wi-Fi access points/client bridges, Ethernet switches and routers.
  • Experience working in a Linux environment.
  • Knowledge of Linux OpenWRT distribution is a real advantage.
  • Experience of network monitoring and management tools used to capture and analyse performance and behaviour e.g. Wireshark.
  • Design specification experience for Hardware products.
  • Fluent in both French and English language, written and verbal.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.
