- Draftsman / CAD Designer providing drafting and CAD design support for DoD systems. Collaborating with engineers to develop and maintain technical drawings and models.
Responsibilities
- This position provides drafting and CAD design support for engineering and sustainment activities at NSWC Dahlgren.
- The Draftsman will develop and maintain technical drawings and models that support fabrication, integration, testing, and lifecycle sustainment of DoD systems.
- The role works closely with government and contractor engineers to translate design intent, redlines, and legacy documentation into accurate, controlled technical data.
- Create, modify, and maintain 2D and 3D technical drawings using CAD tools.
- Develop detailed drawings, layouts, assemblies, and schematics in support of hardware systems.
- Convert legacy drawings and redlines into current digital formats.
- Support configuration control by incorporating drawing changes and revisions.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable drafting standards and program requirements.
- Maintain organized drawing packages and associated technical documentation.
- Coordinate with engineers to clarify design intent and resolve discrepancies.
- Support engineering change activities and documentation updates.
- Assist with preparation of drawing packages for fabrication, installation, or sustainment.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree, technical certificate, or equivalent professional experience in Drafting, CAD Design, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional drafting experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for 2D technical drawings.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and assemblies.
- Experience producing detailed mechanical and/or electrical drawings.
- Experience working from engineering sketches, redlines, and verbal direction.
- Familiarity with drawing revision processes and configuration control.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and program staff.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
