About the role

  • Release Train Engineer leading Agile Release Trains at Navy Federal Credit Union. Enabling cross-functional delivery within large, complex environments focused on high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train, fostering Lean-Agile principles and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Lead and enable the ART to deliver value consistently while navigating the complexities of large-scale, cross-functional development
  • Act as a critical communication bridge between multiple Scrum and Kanban teams, Product Management, Business Owners, and enterprise stakeholders
  • Plan, facilitate, and drive PI Planning events, ensuring effective preparation, execution, and follow-through
  • Establish and maintain the ART PI cadence and conduct Inspect & Adapt workshops
  • Partner with Product Management, Business Owners, and delivery teams to define outcome-oriented, measurable PI Objectives aligned to enterprise and portfolio goals
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination before, during, and after PI planning sessions
  • Own overall planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of value across the ART
  • Establish and maintain program-level timelines, milestones, increments, and release cadences
  • Create and manage a Program Backlog Kanban, working with Product Managers and Product Owners to prioritize features
  • Facilitate continuous refinement of program-level features to enable teams to pre-plan effectively
  • Establish and maintain ART-level delivery metrics, dashboards, and reporting to provide leadership real-time visibility into PI progress, risks, and outcomes
  • Ensure traceability across Features, PI Objectives, and delivery commitments
  • Proactively manage and coordinate cross-ART and enterprise dependencies, working with shared services, external teams, and portfolio stakeholders
  • Identify, manage, and escalate impediments, risks, and issues that impact ART delivery
  • Drive program-level continuous improvement through Inspect & Adapt outcomes, retrospectives, and metrics-based insights
  • Act as a change agent by influencing planning discipline, execution practices, and delivery maturity beyond ART ceremonies
  • Coach leaders, teams, and stakeholders in SAFe principles and practices, contributing to broader Lean-Agile transformation initiatives

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience with SDLC, application delivery, and Agile practices
  • 3–4+ years of hands-on experience as a Release Train Engineer, supporting 7–9 Scrum and/or Kanban teams in a large, complex enterprise environment
  • 4+ years of SAFe experience, including:
  • SAFe RTE and/or SPC certification (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and recommend SAFe principles and practices
  • Proven experience facilitating large-scale events and presenting to audiences of 100+ participants
  • Expert knowledge of the RTE role within SAFe
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to drive PI planning, establish cadence, and ensure predictable execution
  • Excellent problem-solving, risk management, and dependency management capabilities
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence without authority
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and delivery accountability.
