About the role
- Principal System Engineer responsible for design and optimisation of server, virtualisation and storage systems. Ensuring high availability and acting as a technical architect for complex issues.
Responsibilities
- Design, operation and optimisation of Windows server landscapes (AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO, clustering)
- Architecture and administration of VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter)
- Operation and further development of Nutanix clusters (AHV, Prism)
- Proactive monitoring, capacity planning and security hardening
- Planning and administration of SAN/NAS systems, including provisioning, zoning, replication and performance tuning
- Operation of storage fabrics (e.g. Brocade, Cisco MDS)
- Implementation of backup and disaster recovery strategies
- Introduction of new technologies to increase efficiency, automation and resilience
- Creation of standards, documentation and runbooks
- Collaboration with security teams (patching, compliance, vulnerability management)
- Incident management including root cause analysis
- Mentoring and technical leadership for project teams
Requirements
- Relevant experience in enterprise server, virtualisation and storage environments
- Expert knowledge of Windows Server, VMware vSphere, Nutanix (AHV/Prism) and enterprise SAN/NAS
- Scripting experience (PowerShell or similar)
- In-depth network know-how (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, security)
- Very strong analysis and troubleshooting skills
- Certifications (MCSE, VCP/VCAP, NCP/NCM, storage vendor)
- Experience with Azure/AWS hybrid integrations
- Knowledge of IaC (Terraform, Ansible) or CI/CD
- Clear communication and cross-team collaboration
- Ability to independently lead complex technical initiatives
- Structured documentation and proactive service mindset
