About the role

  • Develop and maintain the automation systems at Heraeus. Ensure proper functioning and optimize production processes at the Dayton site.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, improve, and maintain the automation systems at the Dayton site
  • Ensure automation systems are functioning properly to keep daily production runs on schedule
  • Maintain measurement and control equipment
  • Improve HMIs/user interfaces and PLC/DCS systems
  • Support with the digitalization of currently manual processes
  • Monitor and improve the plant PLC/DCS systems
  • Creation of sequences/sequential function charts for reactors and batch recipes
  • Ensure Process Automation is effectively utilized to optimize plant performance
  • Support in troubleshooting production issues
  • Provide training as needed to the chemical line operators
  • Calibration and tuning of measurement systems and control loops
  • Optimize production processes by supporting the process engineering team
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the Operational team
  • Develop, teach, and improve operators’ ability to technically troubleshoot the various plant operations
  • Coordinate, complete, and document Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), Management of Change (MOC), and process safety revalidations
  • Handle confidential information with care
  • Provide input to department annual budgeting where applicable
  • Adherence to Code of Conduct as applicable to job function
  • Implements the requirements of the Heraeus HPS EHS Development Path and GBU EHS requirements
  • Establishes EHS goals and targets as part of the continuous improvement process

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or equivalent)
  • 7-10 years of controls experience in an automated manufacturing environment are required
  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a professional manner are required
  • Organizational skills, teamwork skills, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to solve problems are required
  • Computer proficiency in a MRP system as well as MS Office is required
  • Experience with Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs and RSLogix Suite is preferred
  • Experience with OSISoft PI System is preferred
  • Ladder logic and code writing experience is preferred
  • 4-20 mA and/or HART protocol is preferred
  • PID loop tuning experience is preferred
  • Instrument scaling and calibration experience is preferred
  • Modbus is preferred
  • Building automation systems, such as JACE, etc. is preferred.
