About the role

  • Bridge Technical Manager at Michael Baker International overseeing bridge inspection and asset management projects. Leading teams to deliver engineering solutions and maintain client relationships primarily in Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bridge inspections and accurately identify priority maintenance needs.
  • Develop repair recommendations and review inspection reports for completeness and quality.
  • Ensure timely submission of inspection documents in compliance with NBIS and state/federal regulations.
  • Lead or support emergency inspections and mission-critical asset management initiatives.
  • Perform and review design and load ratings for a wide variety of bridge types.
  • Lead, mentor, and guide teams of staff engineers; foster a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Provide engineering solutions for complex or unique project challenges.
  • Serve as a champion for adopting cutting-edge technologies and innovative engineering methods.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships across the country as a recognized subject matter expert.
  • Advise clients on best practices, industry trends, and technologies to improve project quality, safety, schedule, and budget.
  • Prepare and update bridge inspection policies and client procedures.
  • Support proposal development and help shape strategic pursuits with unique value propositions.
  • Conduct seminars, workshops, and training courses on bridge engineering topics.
  • Contribute technical expertise to studies, design-build initiatives, and complex infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical leadership to the Pittsburgh engineering team and support regional collaboration.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of bridge inspection and asset management experience.
  • Pennsylvania P.E. license or ability to obtain within 6 months; additional state registrations are a plus.
  • NBIS-qualified Bridge Inspection Team Leader (as defined by PennDOT Publication 238).
  • Preferred Certifications: NSTM, Scour, Tunnel Inspection.
  • Strong knowledge of FHWA SNBI requirements.
  • Demonstrated mastery of inspection practices and asset management forecasting.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage the design, analysis, inspection, and maintenance of complex highway and railroad structures.
  • Excellent client management skills with established industry relationships.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
