About the role

  • Planning & Optimization Engineer optimizing the South value chain profitability for Marathon Petroleum. Coordinates refinery operations, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and develops execution plans.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the commercial aspects of refinery operations
  • Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of refinery operations, economics, and market dynamics
  • Develops and communicates strategies that capture missed opportunities and closes production optimization gaps
  • Assists in collaboration meetings with the value chain
  • Develops optimized and executable production plans for refineries using linear programming simulation models
  • Modifies production plans as needed to adjust to demand/margin changes
  • Identifies constraints associated with refinery modeling
  • Conducts detailed analysis of buy-or-make options
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather relevant data and insights
  • Analyzes historical refinery data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement
  • Provides LP support in the development and justification of capital projects
  • Uses LP to develop long-term business plan for South region
  • Builds out turnaround cases in the LP 1 year+ ahead of time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
  • Four (4) years relevant experience
  • Technical Services or Economics & Planning experience preferred
