About the role

  • Cyber Security Manager leading the safeguarding of technology assets and data against threats at Barnet Council. Driving strategies, compliance, and risk management aligned with national standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Council’s approach to safeguarding technology assets, systems, and data against evolving cyber threats
  • Develop and implement a robust cyber security strategy aligned with national standards and local government best practice
  • Oversee risk management, compliance, and incident response
  • Ensure resilience of critical services and protection of sensitive information
  • Drive a culture of security awareness across the organization
  • Provide strategic advice to senior leaders and manage relationships with external partners

Requirements

  • Experienced cyber security professional with strategic insight and hands-on expertise
  • Strong track record of protecting complex organizations from evolving cyber threats, ideally within the public sector or other regulated environments
  • Understanding of national standards and frameworks such as NCSC guidance, PSN, PCIDSS, GDPR, and Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Ability to translate standards into practical, proportionate controls
  • Strong relationship building skills with experience in influencing, challenging constructively, and collaborating across organizational boundaries
  • Champion of security by design and drive cultural change
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, proven experience influencing senior stakeholders
  • Proficiency in modern security technologies including Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, and the wider Microsoft E5 security suite
  • Ability to analyze risks and interpret complex technical information
  • Proactive, highly organized, and able to balance multiple priorities while keeping residents, partners, and staff at the heart of decision-making
