About the role
- Associate Engineering Technician responsible for various engineering projects and roadside maintenance with the Illinois Department of Transportation. Facilitating specifications, reports, and compliance in engineering operations.
Responsibilities
- Develops highway sign details/traffic control device standards and reviews traffic control device maintenance contracts and Roadway Designation Resolution requests for the traffic engineering program.
- Assists with various roadside maintenance efforts such as the statewide Integrated Roadside Vegetation Maintenance Plan, Operations Monarch Conservation Plan, pollinator and monarch conservation research, and the bi-weekly Pollinator Report.
- Summarizes various winter maintenance reports dealing with snow removal, roadway weather information system options, deicing technologies, living snow fence data and other winter operations programs utilizing various Microsoft Office programs.
- Develops check lots for payments received from the Interstate Business Logo Signing Program, Attractions Signing Program, and the Tourist Oriented Directional Signing Program.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
Requirements
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS twelve months of engineering experience; OR Four years of engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of the routine practices of civil engineering.
- Working knowledge of communication systems technology.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software.
- Analytical ability to solve routine engineering problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
- Requires occasional statewide travel with overnight stays.
