About the role

  • Manage installation, configuration, and administration of database systems on AWS.
  • Monitor and enhance database performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Conduct query optimisation and implement performance tuning strategies.

  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure optimal data flow and performance across environments.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and shift coverage to maintain round-the-clock support.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of database management processes and documentation.
  • Influence technology strategy by proposing innovative and pragmatic solutions for future database architecture and automation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting AWS database environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in database installation, tuning, optimisation, and administration
  • Experience working in international, distributed teams with multiple business and technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated expertise in AWS RDS, with hands-on experience managing complex, high-availability environments
  • Deep knowledge of Aurora PostgreSQL, including configuration, performance tuning, and operational support
  • Proven experience administering MySQL databases in production, ensuring reliability and scalability
  • Strong technical background working with Amazon Redshift, from setup to optimisation for analytics workloads
  • Solid experience in database performance tuning, with the ability to diagnose and resolve bottlenecks efficiently
  • Skilled in SQL query optimisation, improving execution times and resource utilisation
  • Proficient in the installation and configuration of database systems within AWS cloud infrastructures
  • Experience with workload management, ensuring optimal distribution of database resources and performance
  • Advanced understanding of AWS IAM, including user roles, security policies, and access control
  • Familiarity with AWS Lambda, leveraging serverless functions for automation and operational efficiency
  • Competent in using AWS CloudWatch to monitor database performance, metrics, and alerts proactively
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS S3, including data storage integration and lifecycle management best practices
  • Fluent in English.
  • Must be a Portuguese or European citizen or have a work permit for Portugal.
