About the role

  • Provide expert advice on data strategy, architecture, and implementation best practices
  • Design and develop scalable data pipelines on public cloud platforms (primarily AWS, with exposure to Azure or GCP as needed)
  • Implement and optimise Lakehouse architectures, particularly Iceberg, with Hudi and Delta as a plus
  • Build, automate, and maintain ETL processes, data workflows, and orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Step Functions, AWS Workflow)
  • Ensure high standards of reliability, automation, maintainability, and security across all solutions delivered
  • Support incident resolution, root cause analysis, and define preventive actions when required
  • Document technical designs, configurations, and operational guidelines in line with best practices
  • Share knowledge and mentor internal teams to strengthen overall data engineering capabilities

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience building data pipelines on public cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP also valued)
  • At least 1 year of experience in data solution architecture, design, and support
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, ETL, BI, Big Data, Machine Learning, and Advanced Analytics concepts
  • Hands-on experience with Spark ecosystems (knowledge of Hadoop is a plus)
  • Proficiency in pipeline orchestration tools such as Airflow, Step Functions, or AWS Workflow
  • Deep understanding of Lakehouse architectures, particularly Iceberg, including optimisation techniques (e.g., Compaction, Z-Order)
  • Solid programming and data transformation experience with Python, SQL, and SSIS; familiarity with Docker, CI/CD, and automation tools
  • Expertise in AWS services: Lambda, Glue, Crawlers, Step Functions, AWS Workflow, DynamoDB, and AWS Batch
  • Experience applying DevOps and Agile principles, including Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform) and artefact/vulnerability management
  • Awareness of core cloud services, including networking, security, storage, and IAM
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across global and multicultural teams
  • Experience with containerised applications (Docker) and Linux-based infrastructure is preferred
  • Fluent in English
  • French is a Plus
  • Must be a Portuguese or European citizen or have a work permit for Portugal
