About the role

  • Working Student at Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS developing AI solutions in Data Science and NLP. Focusing on innovative applications and cutting-edge technologies in generative AI and machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Work with latest technologies in industrial and research projects, focusing on generative AI, machine learning, and transformer models.
  • Develop innovative AI solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT-5, BERT, or Google Gemini.
  • Transform unstructured, domain-specific data into vector databases and build application-oriented Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems.
  • Apply fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and other techniques to maximize the accuracy and performance of LLMs.
  • Support data integration, ETL processes, and the modeling and structuring of knowledge.
  • Develop web applications and interfaces for chatbot systems and knowledge management tools.
  • Actively contribute to data interpretation and bring ideas for new AI use cases.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree (minimum 1st semester) in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Software Engineering.
  • Initial practical experience in Machine Learning, Generative AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and AI algorithms.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, including proficiency in libraries such as pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, transformers, PyTorch, sentence-transformers, and spaCy.
  • First experience or keen interest in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Agentic-RAG, including text preprocessing, chunking, embeddings, semantic search, reranking, and output tuning.
  • Initial experience in developing web applications and APIs using Flask, FastAPI, Streamlit, or REST APIs.
  • Confident use of modern development environments/IDEs (e.g., Visual Studio Code).
  • Reliable team player with a high motivation to learn and strong engagement.
  • Interest in a long-term collaboration (minimum 6 months).
