About the role

  • Scientific employee working in quantum software engineering within Fraunhofer's Machine Intelligence department. Collaborating on innovative projects on quantum computing and machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Your curiosity leads you to the "Quantum Compilation" group, part of the "Machine Intelligence" division.
  • Our team is composed of experts with diverse academic backgrounds in computer science, engineering and physics.
  • Since 2019 our group has worked on the latest topics in quantum computing, including quantum machine learning, machine learning for optimizing compilers for quantum computers, quantum error correction and distributed quantum computing.
  • Dive into scientific software development and drive application-oriented research on quantum algorithms.
  • Investigate machine learning methods to make optimal use of quantum computers.
  • Shape forward-looking projects together with industry partners and renowned research institutions.
  • Take responsibility for project tasks and mentor students.
  • Share your research results through compelling publications, presentations and engaging public outreach (e.g., events, trade shows, etc.).

Requirements

  • Academic qualification: You hold an academic degree in computer science, information technology, computational science or applied mathematics, preferably with a doctoral degree.
  • Programming expertise: You have extensive experience programming in Python and C++, with a focus on algorithm and API development.
  • Technical know-how: You have solid knowledge of Linux systems, HPC systems and cloud computing.
  • Research experience: You are familiar with research and development of software for quantum computing and have a deep understanding of this cutting-edge technology.
  • Machine learning and deep learning: You have engaged deeply with concepts in machine learning and deep learning.
  • Language skills: You communicate fluently in German and English, supporting international teamwork.
  • Project management: Ideally you have prior project management experience and are ready to take on responsibility.
