- Engineer Mechanical focused on designing propulsion systems for submarines at Newport News Shipbuilding. Developing and qualifying mechanical products within the complex naval shipbuilding industry.
Responsibilities
- Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy
- Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines
- Work on propulsion plant components, which may include heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and or equipment mounts
- Provide oversight of suppliers with a focus on technical rigor balanced with schedule and cost performance
- Establish and maintain positive stakeholder and customer relationships while balancing competing priorities to ensure trust and alignment of expectations are sustained
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience
- Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
- Experience in propulsion plant components and the steps required to develop, qualify, and manufacture a final design
- Experience with procurement specifications, their development and ensuring suppliers adherence to those requirements
- Proficiency in conflict resolution while maintaining a strong focus on achieving common objectives
- Capable of pivoting due to unforeseen changes while working in a complex technical environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
