Ehud Shapiro from the Weizmann Institute with global collaborators.
We are building a Grassroots Digital Democracy (GDD) where users can exert their rights and maintain full control of their personal data.
We envision an architecture that provides a resilient alternative to platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Bitcoin, and Ethereum.
We have developed an architecture based on three fundamental concepts:
1.
Equality in digital governance: Including resilience to fake and duplicate digital identities and equality in constitution formation, proposing rules and amendments, deliberation, coalition formation, and decision to fork a digital community.
2.
Digital sovereignty: The ability for individuals to conduct their social, economic, civic, and political lives in the digital realm using the networked computing devices they own and operate, free of third-party control or surveillance.
3.
Grassroots digital systems: Permissionless distributed systems that can have autonomous, independently-deployed instances, interoperating voluntarily once interconnected.
We are building the protocol stack on smartphones, implementing initial core applications and their experimental deployment.
Our system ensures reliability, confidentiality, integrity, security, and data portability.
