Senior Hardware Engineer leading test strategy and execution for wired connectivity in automotive technology. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure design and testing alignment across ECUs and semiconductor devices.
Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end hardware electrical test strategy for network technologies, from requirements analysis through coverage closure and sign-off.
Define and maintain test cases and test procedures for wired connectivity (e.g., automotive Ethernet), ensuring traceability to system, hardware, and safety requirements.
Establish and own requirements linking between system / hardware requirements and verification artifacts (test cases, test results, analyses), including coverage metrics and reporting.
Drive test environment capability enhancements: Define and evolve bench setups, fixtures, test boards, and harnesses to support new network features and operating corners.
Identify gaps in lab capabilities (e.g., bandwidth, jitter, protocol decoding, automation) and lead upgrades in collaboration with lab and capital planning.
Standardize test environments and best practices across programs and suppliers.
Lead bench test execution throughout the development lifecycle, including bring-up, characterization, margining, regression, and release testing.
Perform detailed hardware analysis in support of testing, including worst-case analysis, signal integrity (SI), and power integrity (PI), to define appropriate test coverage and limits.
Troubleshoot test failures and anomalous behavior, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions with ECU and semiconductor design teams.
Develop and maintain test specifications and verification plans that clearly define scope, pass/fail criteria, and acceptance limits for each test item.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams in software, mechanical, systems, safety, and manufacturing to ensure that test coverage aligns to program needs and that test findings are rapidly integrated into designs.
Interface with semiconductor partners and Tier 1s to align on device- and ECU-level test requirements, share lab results, and ensure issues are resolved in silicon and hardware revisions.
Provide clear, data-driven test reports and technical summaries to leadership and program teams, including risk assessments and release recommendations.
Support and lead design and test reviews, presenting coverage status, key test results, and open issues.
Establish and continuously improve domain expertise in network semiconductor and ECU product lines within scope of responsibility, especially in the context of electrical validation and compliance testing.
Contribute to and help manage technology and test methodology roadmaps in close collaboration with industry leaders, aligning lab capabilities and test strategies with future architectures.
5+ years of engineering experience at an OEM, semiconductor supplier, or Tier 1 ECU supplier.
3+ years of hands-on experience in electronic hardware design and/or electrical validation and testing for complex ECUs, network interfaces, or similar systems.
Working knowledge of automotive electronic hardware and automotive software architecture (ECUs, networks, diagnostics, and integration flows).
Strong proficiency in circuit fundamentals, ability to interpret schematics and PCB layouts, and understanding of how design choices impact testability and lab behavior.
Demonstrated experience with lab equipment such as power supplies, high‑bandwidth oscilloscopes, signal generators, electronic loads, protocol analyzers, and multimeters.
Experience planning and executing structured hardware validation, including test procedure development, data collection, and documentation.
Experience with requirements and/or test management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Polarion, or equivalent) and maintaining traceability from requirements to test cases and results.
Familiarity with hardware design and analysis tools such as Mentor Graphics Xpedition and ORCAD (or equivalent) for reviewing designs and informing test strategies.
Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills; demonstrated ability to work across functional and organizational boundaries (hardware, software, systems, suppliers).
Proven experience leading projects to completion, including coordination of lab work, driving closure of defects, and achieving test sign-off.
Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced, technically complex environment.
