About the role

  • Diagnostic System Architect in automotive engineering ensuring compliance and robust vehicle systems. Leading diagnostic strategies and collaborating with engineering and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as diagnostic subject matter expert (SME) for the Secure Vehicle ART that includes products such as closures, compartments and vehicle access.
  • Define non-functional diagnostic requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure timely delivery of diagnostic artifacts across the ART.
  • Apply business, safety, emissions, and service requirements per GM Diagnostic Policies.
  • Recommend and enforce design guidelines from GM Diagnostic Principles.
  • Align with GM’s enterprise diagnostic architecture and strategies.
  • Support and ensure inclusion of system analyses (e.g., FMEA, FTA, trade-offs).
  • Support and ensure alignment to robustness test planning (DOE1–DOE5).
  • Partner with Agile Teams, suppliers, DREs, calibration, safety, service, and manufacturing.
  • Consult with GM Diagnostic Business Sector Representatives and regulatory agencies.
  • Mentor diagnostic professionals within the ART.
  • Align ART members to a common diagnostic strategy and best practices.
  • Roll down the diagnostic architecture roadmap to teams.
  • Define subsystems, interfaces, and allocate diagnostic responsibilities.
  • Plan and develop the Diagnostic Architectural Runway for the ART.
  • Support supplier sourcing, assessments, and technical reviews.
  • Engage in LPM/EPICs and provide diagnostic workload assessments.
  • Participate in diagnostic improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current with industry trends, diagnostic tools, and internal policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Computer, Software, Mechanical or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in diagnostics, systems engineering, or embedded controls.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle diagnostics, serviceability, and compliance standards.
  • Experience with FMEA, FTA, and robustness validation planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and mentor others.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
  • Must be legally allowed to work in Canada and able to travel to the US.
