About the role

  • Aerospace Engineer developing mission planning and space system analysis workflows for NorthStar. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration across mission planning and backend systems.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on algorithms, models, workflows, propagation, and scenario validation to implement a next generation SSA mission planning engine.
  • Collaborate with Mission Planners to design and implement automated workflows including calculation of access windows, visibility periods, pointing geometry, and resulting overlay with onto space system constraints.
  • Integrate mission planning workflows with internal and external systems via APIs for tasking and data exchange.
  • Build unit, integration, and regression tests for mission planning and simulation pipelines.
  • Validate scenarios against expected orbital geometry, constraints, and mission objectives.
  • Extend NorthStar’s SSA operational picture with operational monitoring, telemetry and validation tools and dashboards.
  • Define and report performance metrics to support operations.
  • Connect mission-planning engine to backend services to report on data acquisition results against planned access windows, pointing geometry, and mission constraints.
  • Identify anomalies, missed opportunities, and degraded acquisitions.
  • Generate dashboards and reports summarizing data quality, coverage, and performance trends to inform operations and future planning.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions to align development activities with project goals.
  • Share insights, solutions, and best practices to elevate team performance and advance mission capabilities.

Requirements

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with astrodynamics data and space systems.
  • Experience with scientific/analytical libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas.
  • Experience developing microservices or data-processing pipelines is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with languages such as C++, Rust, or Java considered an asset.
  • Preferred direct experience with astrodynamics and mission planning tools, such as: STK, GMAT, Orekit, Astropy, SGP4 propagation libraries, or similar.
  • Experience with orbital mechanics, constellation planning, or spacecraft operations.
  • Experience integrating multiple systems or data pipelines in operational environments.
  • Familiarity with modern backend technologies and cloud platforms.

Benefits

  • Health and dental coverage through our group plan from Day 1.
  • Flexible working hours and a hybrid work model.
