About the role

  • Quality Engineer role at Ford managing HTIS engine issues and teardowns for reliability improvements. Collaborating with teams to reduce warranty spend and enhance product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Engine Teardowns to support High Time in Service Quality projects on aggressive timelines to attack warranty spend and failure rate reduction targets.
  • Responsibilities include: 1. Oversight and support of technologist and engineering staff at the center 2. Maintaining throughput of teardowns and component analysis 3. Ensure equipment is functioning properly and tools/resources for teardown personnel are available 4. Apply project management skills to process engines through teardown and evaluation by design responsible engineering teams 5. Provide field data and dealer insights for engineers evaluating their engines 6. Report out issues found and create resolution teams with the functions.
  • Projects will be expected to rapidly work through the Define, Characterize, Optimize and Verify phases of the DFSS process including root cause identification and verification, implementation of ICA/PCA’s, read across and prevent recurrence.
  • Project leader will be expected to present frequently to senior management project status and results, interface regularly with quality, powerpack and core engineers and TS’s and maintain required project documentation.
  • Strong focus on warranty data/trend analysis, part return analysis and physical understanding of engine/powertrain systems and subsystems as key tools to identification root cause and interim and permanent corrective actions.
  • Identify and document lessons learned for knowledge preservation.
  • Lead Teardown and Prioritization Meetings for Teardown Center

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 2+ plus years of experience leading projects
  • 3+ years of experience with internal combustion engines, thermal systems or after-treatment systems in one or more of the following areas: Design, Test, Controls, Calibration.
  • 6-Sigma green belt, black belt and Design for Six Sigma experience a plus.
  • Familiarity/experience with Strategic Problem Solving.
  • Familiarity/experience with Failure Mode Avoidance and Robustness and Reliability processes
  • Familiarity with quality tools.
  • Knowledge of key engine/powertrain subsystems including base engine, cooling, airpath, fuel, after-treatment, etc.
  • Strong project management, problem solving and organization skills
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
  • Enjoys taking on new challenges, embraces learning and discovery.
