About the role

  • Manager Geotechnical Engineering overseeing engineering designs and providing technical expertise. Engaging in project optimization and guidance for geotechnical infrastructure across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and review Engineering designs and construction plans for crushed leach pads, dams, levees and foundations company-wide
  • Serve as technical advisor on geotechnical infrastructure projects and as company resource for geotechnical information and analysis
  • Perform critical review of geotechnical aspects of crushed leach pads, tailings dams, water dams, levees and infrastructure foundation/civil design investigations and designs
  • Stay abreast of the state of the practice in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Manage projects and serve as subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex site planning/construction, expansion or modifications
  • Provide guidance to Managers and Engineers on applicable programs, practices, and regulations
  • Interpret Geotechnical theory and practice and provide recommendations to Management
  • Act as a company resource and mentor in the practice of Geotechnical Engineering
  • Proactively identify and champion new technologies and management programs
  • Ensure optimization of ongoing and proposed dams, crushed leach pads and plan foundation structures
  • Contribute to strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas
  • Represent the site on company sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams
  • Perform other duties as requested

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum
  • Ten (10) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise, including lead or supervisory experience; OR
  • Master's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline with eight (8) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise, including lead or supervisory experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a diversely educated audience
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering (Preferred)
  • Knowledge in the principles and practices of Civil, Geological, and/or Geotechnical Engineering (Preferred)
  • Expert in crushed ore heap leach facility design, construction, management and operation (Preferred)
  • Experience in tailings and water dam design, construction, management, and operation (Preferred)
  • Expert in managing programs with various levels of operational staff and professionals (Preferred)
  • Field experience in geotechnical site investigations (Preferred)
  • Experience in soil characterization, interpretation of geotechnical lab tests, and engineering analysis on crushed ore heap leach and tailings material (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in two or more practice areas relevant to tailings and crush leach (Preferred)
  • Expertise in modeling and numerical approaches to solving engineering challenges (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in using appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD, and geotechnical analysis) (Preferred)
  • Project Management experience (Preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally (Preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to travel at least five (5) weeks for every quarter (Preferred)
