About the role

  • Data Governance Specialist defining and operationalizing data governance for secure, compliant data usage. Collaborating with teams to improve data quality and compliance with GDPR in Köln.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain data governance policies, standards, and ownership models (data quality, security, privacy, retention)
  • Drive data quality, master data, metadata, and reference data practices across domains
  • Ensure alignment with GDPR and internal controls, supporting audits and regulatory requirements
  • Operate and evolve data governance tools such as data catalogs, lineage, and monitoring solutions
  • Act as a key interface between business stakeholders and technical teams
  • Promote data literacy and governance adoption through training, workshops, and clear guidance
  • Track compliance and data quality metrics and support remediation efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, Business Informatics, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience in data governance and data management, including policies, stewardship, data quality, and metadata across multiple domains
  • Strong SQL skills with a solid foundation in data modeling and database architecture
  • Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Python and modern DevOps/data engineering practices are a plus
  • Practical experience with modern data platforms and lakehouse concepts (ideally Databricks)
  • Good knowledge of data-related regulatory requirements, especially GDPR, data privacy, retention, and auditability
