Corporate Staff Accountant managing day-to-day accounting for Empire State Realty Trust. Supporting financial reporting, operational excellence, and compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
Responsibilities
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
Process monthly journal entries, including corporate allocations and accruals, and maintain the integrity of the general ledger
Perform monthly/quarterly budget vs actual and month-over-month variance analytics, monitor expenses, and assist with providing financial insights to support decision-making by management
Prepare monthly/quarterly reconciliations and other supporting schedules in accordance with SOX requirements
Collaborate with Financial Reporting and Accounting Policy team to record journal entries related to significant non-routine transactions
Record monthly corporate credit card expenses
Review entries and workpapers for accuracy and appropriate documentation, and investigate and resolve discrepancies
Assist with annual budget and quarterly reforecast process, through data entry and analysis
Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor inquiries to support quarterly and annual audit requests
Record transactions, prepare financial statements and investor reporting packages for certain managed assets
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Accounts Payable, Marketing, Legal, and IT, to ensure timely submission of information and adherence to monthly and quarterly deadlines
Requirements
Knowledge of GAAP and corporate accounting principles, with hands-on experience in monthly and quarterly close processes
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate) and familiarity with ERP/accounting systems
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
Effective communicator (written and oral) who can present financial information clearly and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, contributing to a positive work environment
Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain well-documented workpapers and reconciliations
Commitment to continuous improvement, process efficiency, and upholding internal controls
Experience with Yardi preferred
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
1-2 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in corporate accounting, public accounting, or a combination of both
Big 4 audit experience and/or public REIT experience preferred
