About the role

  • Lead QA Engineer enhancing testing strategies and quality assurance for Backcountry's online stores. Collaborate with teams to deliver superior products and experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead QA Strategy & Execution: Own the end-to-end testing lifecycle across Backcountry’s web, mobile, and platform systems. Define scalable QA frameworks, automation strategies, and release validation standards.
  • Build & Mentor a High-Performing Team: Develop, coach, and grow QA engineers, fostering a culture of quality ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Drive Automation & CI/CD Excellence: Champion automation within our development pipelines. Expand coverage through modern tools and frameworks (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, Appium).
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product managers, developers, and DevOps to integrate QA early in the SDLC, ensuring rapid and reliable deployments.
  • Monitor & Optimize Quality Metrics: Define and track key performance indicators for product quality, defect density, test coverage, and release reliability.
  • Innovate & Future-Proof: Stay ahead of emerging QA methodologies (AI-driven testing, shift-left, performance engineering) to continually improve efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Quality Assurance and Testing, with at least 2+ years in a lead or managerial capacity.
  • Proven success designing and implementing test automation frameworks in modern CI/CD environments.
  • Expertise in both manual and automated testing across multiple platforms (web, API, mobile).
  • Strong proficiency in modern automation tools (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, Postman, JMeter, etc.).
  • Solid grasp of software development lifecycles, agile methodologies, and defect management tools (Jira, TestRail, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills — able to influence without authority and drive alignment across teams.
  • Passion for outdoor adventure and alignment with Backcountry’s brand ethos is a major plus.
