About the role

  • Senior Legal Counsel providing legal counsel for the Payments and Everyday Business Banking team at CommBank. Engaging in regulatory advice, product innovation, and contract negotiations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, practical legal advice to assist CommBank
  • Assist with regulatory matters including breach advices and responses to regulator requests
  • Participate in regulatory change initiatives
  • Support new product and service innovation and enhancements
  • Negotiate contracts with various stakeholders in the payments ecosystem
  • Provide general banking and financial services advice
  • Identify opportunities to simplify frameworks, policies and processes for effectiveness and efficiency

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in law and 5+ years relevant post admission/qualification experience (PAE)
  • Ideally at least 4 years’ experience in private practice
  • Excellent technical legal skills including the ability to quickly grasp, negotiate and resolve issues in complex matters
  • Sound knowledge of Australian financial services laws and current issues applying to banking
  • The ability to draft, negotiate, and drive to completion complex commercial agreements
  • The capacity to build excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • A team-oriented outlook, a sense of humour, unquestioned ethics and integrity, sound judgment and humility
  • Interest in payments, platforms and networks.
