About the role

Responsibilities

  • The Hospitality Services department is responsible for planning, coordinating, managing and delivering food, nutrition and environmental programs, services and initiatives for residents of a municipal long-term care facility.
  • You are responsible for preparing and serving meals to residents, day program clients, staff and recipients of home-delivered meals, as well as providing catering for special events;
  • cleaning and maintaining food services equipment and utensils; and waste disposal, with an emphasis on safety and resident engagement.
  • Work is performed in accordance with public health regulations, the Long-Term Care Home: Accountability, Care and Protection Act (or relevant provincial long-term care legislation), the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 and the regulations under it, and applicable food handling regulations.

Requirements

  • Completion of a one-year Food Services Attendant program, or enrollment in a Food Services Attendant program at an Ontario college of applied arts and technology with completion within the year.
  • Minimum of 6 months of food services experience in a care setting.
  • Must complete food handler training within the timeframe specified by the employer.
  • Required to obtain food handler certification within the timeframe specified by the employer.
  • Knowledge of the Canada Food Guide, Ontario's Health Protection and Promotion Act (Regulation 562 governing food services), the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 as it relates to food services, and the Canadian Food Hygiene Code for the food industry.
  • Familiarity with the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Knowledge of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles.
  • Possess the training, experience and knowledge necessary to organize work and ensure its proper execution.
