Principal Consultant level Mechanical Engineer at BMT, a leader in maritime consultancy. Leading projects in Critical Infrastructure and expanding into new markets.
Responsibilities
Lead work winning and business development, proactively identifying new opportunities, shaping early conversations, driving pre-positioning activities and leading bids, proposals and commercial strategies that convert pipeline into secured work.
Manage and grow key client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor who maintains regular engagement, anticipates client needs and ensures high client satisfaction and repeat business.
Act as a visible representative of the business in the market, nurturing networks across industry and government, attending events, contributing to partnerships and increasing the organisation’s presence in target sectors.
Collaborate with Program Managers and technical colleagues to position the right capability for opportunities, develop winning strategies and ensure proposals are competitive, accurate and compelling.
Provide senior-level technical oversight where needed, ensuring projects are scoped appropriately, technical risks are considered early and work is delivered to a high standard.
Support and mentor others in technical and commercial areas, technically guiding engineers and designers/drafters and sharing commercial awareness and strengthening work winning literacy across the team.
Requirements
You are energised by work winning. You enjoy identifying opportunities early, shaping proposals, and actively contributing to pipelines, bids, tenders and strategic pursuits. You bring a thoughtful, proactive approach to growing revenue rather than waiting for work to land.
You build strong, enduring relationships. You’re comfortable managing key accounts, nurturing repeat business, and staying connected with clients through regular touchpoints. You know how to balance technical credibility with personable, confident communication that builds trust.
You’re highly visible in the infrastructure, mining, industrial or heavy machinery sectors with a well developed network. You have a solid technical foundation in mechanical, structural or related engineering disciplines that enables you to understand client problems, scope work confidently and engage credibly with both clients and internal teams, without needing to be the technical specialist.
You have a relevant engineering degree and professional registration (or eligibility), with approximately 15+ years’ experience in consulting, engineering or asset-intensive industries.
You have unrestricted working rights in Australia
