About the role

  • Engineer Power Electronics creating power electronics solutions for DLP projection systems in immersive technologies at Barco. Collaborating with international teams to push technology boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate laser diode and LED driver circuits for projection light sources.
  • Develop power supply architecture suitable for 1- or 3-chip DLP projectors, including: AC-DC and DC-DC converters, Constant-current sources for lasers and LEDs, High-efficiency, low-noise power solutions.
  • Define system-level power requirements, interfaces, and operating conditions for projection systems.
  • Specify electrical, thermal, EMC, and safety requirements for off-the-shelf power supplies and drivers.
  • Work closely with ‘external power supply and driver suppliers’ to: Define technical specifications, Review designs and schematics, Support prototype development, testing, and qualification.
  • Perform simulation and analysis of power electronics (e.g., control loops, efficiency, thermal behavior).
  • Support system integration, including bring-up, debugging, and optimization in projector prototypes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety, EMC, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with other engineers (mechanical, thermal, firmware) as well with operations teams (procurement, logistics, manufacturing).
  • Support transition from development to manufacturing and production.
  • Provide maintenance, support, and continuous improvement in power electronics for existing products.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field
  • Proven experience in power electronics design, particularly: Switch-mode power supplies (SMPS)
  • Experience in designing constant-current drivers for high-power LEDs or laser diodes
  • Strong understanding of: DC-DC and AC-DC converter topologies
  • Control methods and loop stability
  • Efficiency optimization and thermal management
  • Hands-on experience with schematic design, PCB layout review, and debugging
  • Knowledge of relevant Power electronics simulation tools (e.g. LTspice, PLECS, PSIM)
  • Experience with digital control, microcontrollers and FPGA’s
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or C# to support debugging
  • Experience with laboratory measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads)
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI mitigation, safety, and regulatory requirements as well as relevant standards (IEC, UL, CE, etc.)
  • Ability to define test setups and validation procedures
