About the role

  • Principal Configuration Management Engineering Technician contributing to major shipbuilding programs for national security. Leading Configuration Management teams and ensuring data integrity for advanced naval vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the Configuration Management project team, delivering high‑quality Configuration Management services throughout the lifecycle of new vessel builds.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the naval and shipbuilding community.
  • Provide engineering support, technical expertise and advice on the Configuration Account and associated documentation.
  • Ensure configuration data is accurate, up‑to‑date and available to support technical decision‑making by Design Authorities and key stakeholders.
  • Deliver Configuration Management outputs to time, cost and quality.

Requirements

  • Expertise in interpreting engineering documentation (drawings, technical records, etc.) to maintain configuration records.
  • Strong understanding of change management principles and control of technical and project documentation.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience of Ministry of Defence processes and publications.
  • Experience creating and managing Configuration Management Plans, with strong knowledge of relevant Defence Standards.
  • Good knowledge of naval engineering or Royal Navy vessels, and the CADMID product lifecycle.
  • HNC or BTEC Level 4 in a STEM discipline (or working towards via professional development).
  • Working towards or intending to work towards Incorporated Engineer status via an appropriate Engineering Institution.
  • Working towards or holding a recognised Configuration Management qualification (e.g., Configuration Management for Practitioners, CM2).
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
