Responsibilities
Act as a trusted deputy to the Chief General Counsel, supporting legal strategy and execution across the enterprise.
Lead legal operations, driving continuous improvement in processes, service delivery and prioritisation.
Oversee complex commercial contracting and negotiations, providing guidance on high-value and strategically significant matters.
Provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across all business units, including regulatory, risk, employment and dispute matters.
Lead regulatory engagement and ensure alignment with evolving legal and compliance obligations in partnership with Group Risk.
Support major transactions, partnerships and strategic initiatives across AP+ and its schemes (eftpos, BPAY, NPP).
Manage external counsel relationships and legal budget.
Act as the escalation point for sensitive, high-risk or complex legal issues.
Build, mentor and lead a high-performing legal team, ensuring quality, consistency and capability uplift across the function.
Requirements
10+ years post-qualification experience, with a current practicing certificate.
A strong track record in leading legal teams and legal operations within complex organisations.
Deep experience advising senior executives and Boards on strategic, regulatory and commercial matters.
Proven ability to operate in highly regulated environments - experience in payments, financial services, critical infrastructure or technology is highly regarded.
Strength in governance, risk management and regulatory engagement.
A commercial mindset, with the ability to balance legal risk with business outcomes.
