About the role

  • Head of Data leading Aurora’s data strategy and operations for power market analytics software. Overseeing data acquisition, engineering, and governance across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own our data acquisition strategy: ensure we source, scrape, or license the right datasets to support all current and future software products
  • Oversee our scraping provider(s), ensuring robustness, coverage, uptime, and proactive issue resolution
  • Continuously evaluate and fill gaps across market data, asset data, weather data, geospatial data, grid/nodal layers, and third-party feeds
  • Work with development team to build and maintain pipelines that clean, transform, validate, and enrich data to production quality standards
  • Ensure all datasets are stored, versioned, catalogued, and documented — with clear SLAs for updates and maintenance
  • Implement monitoring, observability, and automated quality checks to ensure data accuracy and timeliness
  • Partner deeply with Product Managers to understand the data needs of each product: Historical market data, Asset performance and metadata, Geospatial map layers (grid representation, nodal forecasts, land constraints, etc.), Simulation outputs and time-series from Aurora modelling
  • Ensure each product team has well-structured, well-documented, and performant access to the data they need
  • Work with Engineering to design efficient APIs and data services for internal and client-facing consumption
  • Develop high-quality data dashboards on EOS for internal and client use
  • Partner with UX and Dev teams to build compelling, interactive data visualisations using our new charting library
  • Provide guidance and templates that enable other teams to build dashboards and visualisations consistently and at speed
  • Work with Research teams to establish company-wide standards for data quality, naming conventions, and metadata
  • Maintain a comprehensive, searchable data catalog covering both internal and external datasets
  • Ensure data lineage, documentation, and ownership are clear and consistently maintained across teams
  • Champion best practices for data stewardship across engineering, product, and research
  • Lead and grow an existing team of data analysts across Oxford and Gurugram
  • Establish standards for data governance, documentation, and lifecycle management across Aurora
  • Act as the internal thought leader for data quality, architecture, and visualisation

Requirements

  • Strong experience in data engineering, data platform ownership, or leading data teams in a B2B software or analytics environment
  • Proven ability to build production-grade data pipelines (Python, ETL, AWS, etc.)
  • Deep familiarity with time-series data, geospatial data, and API-driven data delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to define data standards, contribution contracts, and decision boundaries in environments with uneven expertise, local variation, and decentralised ownership
  • Ability to translate analytical needs into robust data models and scalable data architectures
  • Excellence in stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong prioritisation and systems mindset: able to simplify complex data landscapes, sequence foundational work overtime, and optimise for organisational leverage as well as feature delivery
  • **Desirable attributes:**
  • Experience with power markets, energy assets, or other complex technical domains
  • Familiarity with modern data visualisation frameworks and dashboarding systems
  • Exposure to UX-driven design principles for data communication
  • Experience working with outsourced scraping providers or building scraping systems in-house

Benefits

  • A pivotal leadership role shaping the data backbone of Aurora’s software products
  • Opportunity to influence product strategy and client experience at scale
  • High autonomy, high ownership, and the ability to build a function from the ground up
  • A collaborative, mission-driven environment focused on transforming the global energy transition
  • A fun, informal, collaborative, and international work culture
  • A competitive salary package
