About the role

  • Data Center Manager overseeing operational excellence and lifecycle management of data centers at athenahealth. Responsible for ensuring high availability and driving continuous improvement of infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily operations of the data center to ensure high availability and performance of physical infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring dashboards using Prometheus and Grafana to track infrastructure health and performance metrics.
  • Utilize Jira to manage work orders, incident tracking, and project workflows efficiently.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement in data center processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate hardware procurement, installation, maintenance, and decommissioning activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, security, and environmental standards within the data center facilities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the team, aligning with athenahealth’s core values.
  • Support capacity planning and forecasting efforts to align infrastructure growth with business needs.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution to ensure data center resilience.
  • Assist in vendor management and contract negotiations related to data center services and equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing to enhance team effectiveness.
  • Engage in cross-team initiatives to improve operational workflows and automation.
  • Support on-call rotations as part of the 24x7x365 coverage model.

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in data center operations, infrastructure management, or a related technical field
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and drive accountability
  • Hands-on experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and visualization
  • Proficiency in Jira for project and incident management
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in operational data analysis
  • Familiarity with physical data center infrastructure, including hardware lifecycle management and environmental controls
  • Ability to work effectively in an in-person role based in Ohio.
