About the role

  • Paralegal providing legal support to prosecutors in the Crimes Against Children Division. Assisting with case management, legal documents, and trial preparations in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal support to prosecutors within the division
  • Assists with case management
  • Prepares and reviews legal documents
  • Supports attorneys in hearing and trials
  • Works collaboratively with prosecutors and staff to ensure efficient handling of cases
  • Obtains all evidence related to investigations and ensures uploading into the paperless storage system
  • Assists during witness or complainant interviews
  • Drafts motions and subpoenas in preparation for trial
  • Assists with coordinating witnesses at trial
  • Acts as a liaison between prosecutors, the public, and various law enforcement and investigative agencies
  • Fills in for administrative assistants when required and trains academic interns
  • Copies discovery and scans/uploads hardcopy documents to the virtual file
  • Works under the supervision of assigned Prosecutor(s) and the Division Chief of the Division

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies or a paralegal certificate
  • Ability to effectively determine issues related to criminal law
  • Legal research and writing skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks
  • Proficient with computer programs Word, Adobe, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to review, organize, and document social media evidence and search warrant returns
