About the role

  • Develops and implements effective prevention plans for facilities and projects, aligned with internal and contractual requirements and local legislation;
  • Provides HSE support to projects during all phases: bidding, planning, fabrication, installation, commissioning and operation/maintenance of hydropower sites;
  • Performs and documents regular safety checks and HSE inspections;
  • Supports project teams in Safety by Design and risk analyses;
  • Conducts internal audits on sites and facilities and coordinates external audits;
  • Develops, delivers and coordinates required HSE training, including via our e-learning platform;
  • Develops the preventive maintenance program and ensures hazardous materials management;
  • Provides immediate support in the event of accidents or incidents. Leads investigations and root cause analyses;
  • Coordinates with provincial safety authorities regarding worker safety;
  • Coordinates first aid, first responder and fire protection programs;
  • Provides support to site health and safety officers and coordinates HSE activities;
  • Establishes and maintains strong client relationships on HSE matters;
  • Coordinates facility health and safety committees and management reviews;
  • Implements ISO 45001 standards, maintains ISO 14001 and COR across provinces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, or another relevant discipline OR a technical college diploma in Environmental, Occupational Hygiene and Safety combined with relevant experience;
  • Membership in a professional safety association is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety legislation for the construction sector;
  • Knowledge of legal frameworks across multiple provinces, Canadian federal and U.S. regulations is an asset;
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in health and safety and environmental roles;
  • Experience working on construction sites and/or in manufacturing plants;
  • Bilingual in French and English, spoken and written;
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) at all levels of the organization;
  • Recognized auditing and training skills in health, safety and environment;
  • Proven leadership qualities in a team-based work environment;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment, initiative and creativity;
  • Willingness to travel (50% of the time or more as required).
