About the role

  • Independent contractor analyzing whistleblower reports and compliance matters in the energy sector. Relieving operational workload for General Counsel in sensitive investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Review incoming whistleblower reports and allegations.
  • Conduct initial fact assessment to determine materiality and urgency.
  • Distinguish between whistleblower matters and HR/grievance issues.
  • Provide recommendation to General Counsel on next steps.
  • Conduct desk-based investigations (review of financial flows, invoices, approvals, policy adherence).
  • Assess compliance with internal policies (e.g., asset disposal procedures).
  • Identify potential breaches of anti-bribery and corruption (ABC) standards.
  • Manage end-to-end whistleblower process including documentation and reporting.
  • Analyze transactions and payment flows within internal systems.
  • Validate whether payments align with approvals and policy thresholds.
  • Assess commercial rationale and procedural compliance.
  • Support scoping and engagement of external forensic auditors for serious matters.
  • Coordinate workstreams across forensic advisors and internal stakeholders.
  • Review and interpret forensic findings.
  • Identify policy gaps arising from investigations.
  • Recommend updates to internal compliance or ABC policies where relevant.

Requirements

  • Experience handling whistleblower reports and/or internal investigations.
  • Background in compliance, internal audit, forensic accounting, risk, or legal.
  • Exposure to anti-bribery and corruption frameworks (UK Bribery Act alignment essential).
  • Experience operating in infrastructure, energy, or regulated environments preferred.
  • Ability to exercise sound commercial judgment.
  • Familiarity with UK and/or South African anti-bribery and corruption legislation.
  • Ability to analyze financial records, invoices, and payment flows.
  • Strong documentation and reporting capability.
  • Competence managing confidential investigations.
  • High discretion and confidentiality.
  • Independent judgment with pragmatic decision-making.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to challenge constructively and escalate appropriately.
  • Ability to work on an ad hoc, flexible basis.
  • Available to scale effort during investigation spikes
