Responsibilities

  • The Senior Project Accountant manages the full billing lifecycle for government and commercial contracts, ensuring accurate invoicing, regulatory compliance, and timely revenue recognition.
  • This role serves as a subject matter expert in federal contract accounting and supports operational teams through billing oversight, reconciliation, staff training, and issue resolution.
  • The Senior Project Accountant provides leadership to junior billing staff and plays a key role in maintaining strong internal controls, audit readiness, and customer relationships.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of project accounting or billing experience, preferably in federal government contracting
  • Strong knowledge of federal invoicing procedures and funding structures
  • Proven experience managing high-volume billing environments
  • Demonstrated ability to reconcile unbilled expenses and resolve aged receivables
  • Experience submitting invoices through electronic systems including WAWF, IPP, VIPERS, and customer portals
  • Proficiency in Deltek Costpoint AR, AP, and Billing modules
  • Prior experience training and mentoring accounting or billing staff
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects, meetings, and deadlines.
