About the role
- Design Supervisor responsible for power distribution design as part of Aecon's utility engineering team. Overseeing team, ensuring quality designs and meeting client expectations.
Responsibilities
- Adheres to Aecon’s Policy & Procedures Manual.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, mentorship, and direction to a team of designers, technicians, and junior engineers.
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor design workload to ensure efficient workflow and meet project deadlines.
- Provide design training and guidance to junior staff along with the Project Engineer.
- Complete or review design calculations and drawings that satisfy all applicable code and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of schedules, estimates, and construction packages.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key clients.
- Strong presentation skills, both written and oral, are considered a requirement.
- Conduct performance feedback, support professional development, and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the design team.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance and quality control standards across all design deliverables.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including construction, engineering, and project management, to ensure design alignment with project goals.
Requirements
- 5 years’ experience with hydro design
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent) or College Diploma.
- Registration as an E.I.T. with the P.E.O is an asset.
- Experience in engineering consulting shall be considered an asset.
- Detailed experience in engineering design, permitting, and processes.
- Specific technical experience with utility services construction preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred; demonstrated ability to manage and mentor technical staff is an asset.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, delegate effectively, and oversee the delivery of high-quality design outputs.
- Strong computer skills required – experience with AutoCAD software and Microstation an asset.
- Proven ability to take initiative and leadership.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Ability to travel for projects.
