About the role

  • Senior Compliance Officer at Absa providing compliance support and risk management in the banking sector. Leading compliance initiatives and regulatory relationship management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complex specialist advice and support in practice formulation and associated best practice improvement tactics
  • Formulate, update and implement compliance risk management policies and control procedures
  • Compile training material and facilitate training of relevant staff
  • Monitor instances of non-compliance with the company’s policies and procedures
  • Establish a compliance culture and create awareness of compliance through interaction with business
  • Assist in managing regulatory relationships
  • Provide proactive and responsive advisory support on compliance related matters
  • Provide advice to business stakeholders in relation to all conduct risk related policies, standards, and supporting documents
  • Attend Business/transaction approval Committees/Forums and provide compliance approval for the transactions and deals presented
  • Identify and manage regulatory risks proactively
  • Respond timely to ongoing regulatory queries raised by stakeholders
  • Review capabilities and compliance for individual transactions and new product launches
  • Develop and provide compliance training and awareness to employees
  • Report to Head of Compliance, Board, relevant committees, Executive Management, and key stakeholders to manage combined assurance
  • Implement and maintain a robust compliance risk management programme

Requirements

  • BCom, LLB degree or equivalent
  • 10 years’ Compliance, Legal and/or Risk experience in CIB
  • Strong understanding of investment banking services and products as well as the regulatory frameworks
  • Strong communication skills – both oral and written
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines under pressure
  • Pro-active and ability to take initiative
  • Ability to make decisions and respond to issues promptly
  • Ability and confidence to uphold Compliance positions under pressure
  • Team player with ability to work autonomously / independently
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft packages and aptitude with IT systems.
