About the role

  • Advanced Practice Provider in Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. Collaborating with physicians and providing comprehensive care for cancer patients.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records.
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
  • Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
  • Perform procedures including: Bone Marrow Biopsies, Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy, Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy, Punch skin biopsy with simple suture.
  • See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
  • Attend program required meetings.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.

Requirements

  • NP: Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner Program for adult care
  • PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program
  • NP: Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGPCNP, AGACNP, etc.)
  • PA: PA-C
  • Both: BLS ACLS preferred
  • NP: Must have unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP
  • PA: Must have unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA
  • Both: Federal and State DEA independent license with unrestricted prescriptive authority
  • APP experience is preferred, ideally in Hematology/Oncology, but recent or new grads graduating by December 2025 are welcome to apply.
