Suspension Engineer responsible for designing and validating suspension systems at Ford. Leading projects to deliver high-performance suspension components.
Responsibilities
The Suspension Engineer is responsible for delivery of foundation suspension systems and components. Responsibilities include the design and package of components, overall system performance, cost, weight, timing and quality.
The engineer leads component and system design and development, validating and signing off all key suspension performance and attribute requirements.
Running vehicle tests, bench tests for specific functions.
Working with suspension development engineers for refining functional characteristics of the suspension components, system, features and the vehicle.
The engineer manages supplier delivery and performance.
Serve as a leader and representative of suspension engineering to interfacing organizations.
Leads the work with Purchasing, Assembly Plants, Vehicle Engineering, Program Management, Supplier base, Supplier Technical Assistance, Ford Customer Service Division and Finance to develop Suspension systems in time that meet cost, functional and quality targets.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Related degree.
High English proficiency (reading, writing and speaking).
Experience in functional engineering is desirable, preferably Chassis or Automotive related work experience (Ford, OEM, supplier).
Strong leadership skills – Inherent self-starter, self-motivated with strong drive for results.
Project management skills – Capable of managing projects by looking both at the big picture objectives and at detail administration to achieve these objectives.
Excellent math, science, technology and IT skills, able to work in unfamiliar and unstructured situations and succeed.
The ability to analyze complex problems and assess possible solutions.
The ability to explain design ideas clearly and strong decision-making skills.
Strong oral/written communication skills to lead group projects, issue resolution and management reviews.
Excellent team working and people skills.
A comprehensive understanding of Suspension Subsystems Design Specifications.
Computer- literate or Proficiency in MS-Office/Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
3D CAD software tools exposure (Catia / Teamcenter).
Demonstrated proficiency in engineering disciplines preferred: DVP&R, DFMEA, 8D, NVH, Process Controls, GD&T, Reliability and System Engineering Fundamentals.
DMAIC/DFSS/Robustness Tools working experience.
Ability to travel and support Ford Motor Company final assembly plants and supplier sites, when required during project delivery; many of them located in Unites States where international travel and B1/B2 or TN Visa would be required.
